Jackson won--major issue was the BANK

Jackson removed money from National Bank and put money into State Banks known as "PET BANKS"

6. Removal of the Indians

1803 - Jackson announced - all Indians moved west of
Mississippi River - West and South agreed.

Creeks were first to go - Cherokees not in the way.

Treaty of Indian Springs 1824 - ceded Atlanta area.

Cherokees called their area "The Enchanted Land"

1829 Dalonega - first gold rush in America.

Georgia surveyed the land forcing the Cherokees to
take their case to the Supreme Court.

They were not citizens the case was thrown out.

Worchester v Georgia -- missionary took case to court-
Marshall ruled Cherokees a "Nation within a nation". 

Jackson ignored the court and moved the Indians.

Meeting in New Echota--Indians pleaded with
Winfield Scott--finally agreed to go.

Trail of Tears--removal to Oklahoma--25% died.
